A couple weeks back I noted that October was the peak month for calling owls at
Thornton Creek, Lincoln County. The increase in owl vocalizations at this
season makes sense in light of the fact that these birds, particularly Great
Horned Owls, are known to be early breeders, sometimes nesting as early as
December and January. I don't know if this fact applies as well to the smaller
species.

Hi -
I think this is a period for resident owls when adults re-affirm territories
and evict juveniles.

Marcia,
I've heard Great Horned Owls hooting in recent weeks. I don't know why.

Good morning all,
Heard a Great horned owl hooting in our N.Eugene backyard last night around
9pm.
I have heard GHOs hooting in January/February of 2000-2006-2010 and 2011,
never in October. Is this unusual this time of year? Or do they just give a
hoot anytime they want?
It was great to have the tiger owl back in the hood.
