Hi all,
My husband and I and our neighbors were treated to the screams (begging
calls?) of three different owls in various locations around our house last
night. This went on for over an hour and we went to bed with it still
going on. We live on at ridge at 110 feet elevation between the ocean and
Nehalem Bay with the Nehalem Bay State Park forest in our backyard. I
recorded a couple minutes of this and posted it in my eBird report. I'm
not that familiar with the begging calls of owls but the spectrogram seems
to fit that for Great Horned Owl. The owls were not seen even though one
screamed 10 feet from my phone (!) at the 1:55 mark - alas, I had no
flashlight with me... In the first minute of the recording, the owls are
about 4 houses away on either side and distantly heard and then they get
closer in the second minute.
Anyway, do these sound like begging calls of the Great Horned Owl? Are all
three juveniles or can you hear a parent? Link here:

Thanks for your help,
