The ECAS Wednesday Birders already have a trip scheduled mid September
to Malheur. This year, it will be an optional 2 or 3 day trip. After
Malheur/Steens, we would plan to go south around Warners, Hart Mtn etc.
We can possibly include a try for the Juniper Titmouse near Adel also.
This September 14 date is good timing for migration and vagrant warblers
also. I.e., last year we enjoyed Blackburnian Warbler, American
Redstart, and Broad-winged Hawk on Sept. 16. While timing for migration
may utilize conditions such as weather, wind and food, besides the date
and daylight, we can expect several birds we don't ever find in central
Oregon, including a search for the Scrub Jay. In the past there have
been some good discussions on OBOL about locations for the interior
form. I will look back in archives for that information before we do the
September trip. Several birders have experience down there and I do
remember that a few years ago, Joel Geier and others wrote about
populations and locations.

While this anticipated split gives me a new ABA bird, I have not seen
this form in Oregon. Perhaps a Wednesday birders trip to the SE is in
order.
Just thinking
