A brief evening run down to the northern part of Finley NWR to look for the
Black-bellied Plovers previously reported by Will Wright and Pam Otley
yielded the following:

Finley Rd. Conservation Wetland:

45 Black-bellied Plovers (mostly in breeding plumage or transitional)
3 Killdeer
2 Solitary Sandpipers (FOY)
30 Greater Yellowlegs
31 Least Sandpipers
20 Dunlin
2 Wilson's Snipe
1 Sora

Prairie Overlook:

1 American Bittern (calling from a ways away to the SW)
1 Grasshopper Sparrow (at least 1, maybe 2 birds, singing to the SE of the
platform); seems very early for this species

Migration is shaping up nicely!

Hendrik & Oscar
