Mike,
Looks like you were well outside a 6-foot radius so no, I don't expect
that anyone will be freaked out.
In the future, all charismatic owls will be equipped with their own
cameras and wireless transmitters, so that birders who feel compelled to
get "record shots" will just be able to download the owls' own "selfies"
from a respectful distance.
Someone gave me a digital camera with 42X zoom for Xmas, so we'll see
how successful I'll be at resisting this malady in the coming year.
