I refound the SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER John Sullivan found yesterday at Fern Ridge Res. It was about 200 yards south of the Royal Ave. observation platform, west of the trail that goes south from the platform. Lots of Pecs still. Numerous BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS but I couldn't pick out any Goldens. Lighting was bad looking west into the sun. At he same site I heard a longspur call as it flushed from the disked up dried pond east of the trail. It landed briefly on the trail about 50' away then disappeared. It's auriculars were prominent but not boldly edged. The bill had a pink base. The tail was boldly edged in white. That's about all I saw in the 5 seconds I saw it. It was a side view so I couldn't see the breast. I don't have enough experience to differentiate longspur calls. I sat there for half an hour waiting for it to show again but it never did. It didn't fly off so had to be somewhat near. The disked up pond bed has lots of furrows where it could have been. There were a few Am. Pipits out there too and many Savannah Sparrows. So, keep a look out for a possible McCown's Longspur if you're out there. Time to watch some Ducks now. Mark Nikas
