Some of you over the years have said there are no birds in Feb. Its true
there are a lot less of them now, maybe half as many of them as were alive
in Nov. Many have perished since November and those things...today in an
exercise in birds, hard to find:
I walked a mile and a half at Salem's Minto Brown Park, for an hour in
woods along the Willamette Slough and back again a different way. There
are birds there. I saw almost halfway to double digits of species and of
individuals even closer: Here's my complete list, it was a gray day, cold
and wet and I don't hear as well as many people do but my eyesight is
better than yours
bewicks wren 1
song sparrow 1
red-tailed hawk 1
california scrub jay 2
mallard 2
dc cormorant 1
carrion crow 2 heard distantly
those all have feathers, so they are birds. Now you know birds exist in
Feb. I'm glad I could clear that up, scientifically
(As much as anything, this is a comment on the dearth of birds we sometimes
see this time of year)
