This morning I spent about half an hour watching a young heron high on a snag in the northeast corner of the ponds trying to get rid of what appeared to be a piece of fabric about a foot long that had somehow become attached to its beak. The bird tried repeatedly to scrape it off on a branch, but with no success. It must have been hooked in somehow. Unfortunately, unless the bird gets lucky, there seems little anyone can do.
