OBOL folks
On Wednesday 6-29-16 I birded around Crook County with Chuck Gates. We visited
many sites to search for my target birds. The grand tour included: BARN OWL,
AMERICAN BITTERN, CLARK’S GREBE, ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER, TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD
(multiple sites), GREAT EGRET, PRAIRIE FALCON, VIRGINIA RAIL, VESPER SPARROW,
GRAY FLYCATCHER, AMERICAN BITTERN, YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, WHITE-THROATED SWIFT
and many others. 59 species and 17 ebird checklists in total. Needless to say
Chuck knows Crook county and has a good time birding it too.
In the previous 7 days I birded in Malheur, Baker, Wallowa, Wheeler and Crook
Counties. The trip was planned to achieve my goal of seeing 100 species in
every county. I was able to meet the goal on Tuesday in Crook County. I guess
my new goal is to simply “bird on”.
I’ve had a great time seeing and finding the every bird, also visiting a lot
new places. It was a great learning experience and that will continue. The best
part was all the people I was able to connect with, fellow birders, local
folks, old friends and new. Many folks went out of their way to show me local
birds and sites, correct my mistakes and generally help out, thank you all!
All trip/project checklist are on eBird.
All the best
Ken Chamberlain
