foothills

I've spent a couple of mornings birding on forest roads in the western
Coast Range foothills southeast of Lincoln City. Yesterday, I heard a
strange call - a single, drawn-out note, high-pitched - it reminded me of
the first note of the emergency broadcast system warning. I never figured
out the source. I was in an area where a newer clear-cut (planted within
the last 5-6 years) edged a not-too-dense stand of conifers (sorry, I don't
know my trees). I wasn't too high- I think maybe 500'? Other birds present
included Western Bluebird, Swainson's Thrush, Varied Thrush, Black-headed
Grosbeak, Olive-sided Flycatcher, etc.

Thanks.
