Phil Pickering and I did a four-hour sea watch at Boiler Bay this morning. Strong southerly winds turned slightly more southwesterly after the first hour or so. Highlights included: Black-footed Albatross --3 Pink-footed Shearwater -- 600 (conservative) Sooty Shearwater -- 200 N. Fulmar -- 1 Ancient Murrelet -- 2 Marbled Murrelet -- 16 Rhinoceros Auklet -- 8 Cassin's Auklet -- 3 Pomarine Jaeger -- 1 or 2 Parasitic Jaeger -- 1 All morning modest numbers of Pacific Loons, Brown Pelicans, Heermann's Gulls, California Guls and Mew Gulls streamed by. We had 41 species in all. After lunch I will turn my attentions to land birding.
