Birders - This morning (11/05, 7:30 a.m.), I bumped into Benton County birders : Hendrik Herlyn, Oscar Harper & Tristen Hynes at the Blackhawk Trail Lane Red-bellied Woodpecker site, in La Grande, OR. After getting good looks of the RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER, we headed over to the La Grande Waste Water Treatment Ponds and picked up the female LONG-TAILED DUCK I located last evening. Mike & Susan Daugherty and Kent Coe (La Grande birders), were present and got good looks at the duck too. The wind with cold temps made the birding brutal. Then we all departed and I was heading back to work, when I received a phone call from Cove birder, Sandy Coulson. Sandy said she had woke up this morning hearing a familiar bird from her youth, growing up in Michigan, a BLUE JAY. I headed over to her place at 804 Mill Street in Cove and almost instantly heard the bird and relocated it moments after that. I snapped a nice photo that can be viewed at either of these two locations: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S15573689 http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m527/avitours/BLJA_zps0f9d44ca.jpg The bird was hanging with two STELLER'S JAYS, eating Elder berries, when they all flew to the east, up Mill Creek, and became sparse. Herlyn, et al. showed up around 9:50 a.m. and we managed to hear the BLUE JAY call a few times later, but did not actually see the bird again. What's going to show up next?
