Hello,
For many years we had the Add-Vantage bags and Vials from Hospira which worked
great and we used them the same way that Koth mentioned he does at his facility.
We signed a contract with BBraun for IV solutions and tubing as well as pumps
earlier this year and this past June we phased out our Add Vantage and moved to
BBraun's Add Ease vial adapters. They are similar in concept, except you do
not need a special vial they work with regular vials. There was a small
learning curve with nursing but they got it down pat now. We stock the
adapters in the medrooms and the nurses assemble everything right there.
Both systems are great as far as cost savings and being user friendly.

Thanks

Subject: [nyschp.dop] Use of Proprietary IV admixture systems (i.e. AddVantage,
Minibag, etc)

BGMC recently moved to a decentralized distribution model using pyxis (pyxis ES
platform). We are strategizing ways to improve the distribution timeliness of
our antibiotics. Unfortunately, pyxis (with Cerner EMR) does not offer an easy
solution for loading minibags into pyxis.

I'm looking for answers/recommendations on the following questions:

1. Does your facility use proprietary IV admixture systems? If so, which
ones?

2. Where are they assembled? In an ISO 5 hood in pharmacy, in pharmacy
outside of the hood, or nurses assemble them immediately prior to administration

3. How do you dispense them? Patient specific, in automated dispensing
cabinet pre-assembled, or in automated dispensing cabinet as separate
components for assembly by nursing

Thanks,

Bill
