But it doesn't help Braille users does it?

Braille users need to have the newsreader back to make it easer.

Hi all

Below is a message from Isaac Porat announcing the new version of
SpeakOn, and a copy of my reply to the SpeakOn mailing list, which I
think are self-explanatory. If you download and clean up your
newspaper using SpeakOn, you will certainly notice a great improvement
in both structure and the removal of unnecessary clutter.

All the best

Hi all

As Isaac says, I have been involved in the testing of the new SpeakOn
version.

The greatest innovation from my point of view is the new plugin for
ntnm e-text. The RNIB made a complete mess of the system when they
took over the production of e-text newspapers from TNAUK. Much of the
damage can be undone by downloading newspapers and magazines via
SpeakOn and running them through its clean-up process. This eradicates
much of the unwanted material, such as the endless repetition of page
numbers and all the "teasers", none of which we had to put up with
from TNAUK. The structure is also considerably improved, so that you
can to a considerable extent now move from section to section in the
newspaper.

Once the clean-up process is complete, you can either read your
newspaper on the pc or transfer it to a portable mp3 player such as
the Victor Stream.

One warning. The clean up process probably will not work the first
time you try it, as SpeakOn has to create the necessary folders. I can
promise you that it will work every time thereafter.

Those of us who have spent the last four months cursing the RNIB's
incompetence owe Isaac a great debt of gratitude. It is not clear to
me why it has been left to a private individual, working in his own
time and for no payment, to put this right.

All the best

Gareth

Hello all

A new version of SpeakOn MediaSuite 1 August is available. SpeakOn
MediaSuite still works in the same way but has been modularized
further
into individual plug-ins which you can add and remove from the Tools
sub-menu to suit the media you need.

For users in the UK, NTNM (National Talking Newspapers and Magazines)
is
now delivered by RNIB. Both NTNM Audio and eText plug-ins were
modified
and enhanced with advanced features for this service.

The Announcement page with links to the What's new and links to the
relevant sections in the tutorial is here:
http://www.speakon.org.uk/SpeakOn/MediaSuite/public/docs-r/Announcemen
t.html

If you have SpeakOn installed already, the most elegant way to update
is
within SpeakOn's menu:
Help > Check for updates
Simply follow instructions. Alternatively use the Windows installer as

indicated on the Announcement page.

After you start the new version of SpeakOn you might not find all the
media tasks you expect. In this case, simply add the plug-ins you need

from the SpeakOn menu:
Tools > Add plug-ins

Thanks to Gareth and Tom, members of this list, for testing SpeakOn
during the development phase.

Regards,
Isaac
SpeakOn's developer
