HAMPTON - Mrs. Alice Cocheeys Livas, 94, of College Place in Hampton and Widener Court in Virginia Beach, passed away on Jan. 4, 2005, in Norfolk, Va.
Affectionately known as 'Doll,' 'Coke,' and 'MeMe,' Livas was the daughter of the late Julia and Claude Smith. She was born Oct. 18, 1910, in Burgaw, N.C. Mrs. Livas was a graduate of Shaw University in Raleigh. She worked as a schoolteacher, a rental manager of Carver Court Apartments in Hampton, and as a homemaker. She was the widow of Henry L. Livas Sr.
She was a golden soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and a member of the Moles organization for 42 years.
She attended Zion Baptist Church in Hampton and Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church in Norfolk.
'MeMe' loved to cook Southern food, play cards, and entertain guests at her home near Hampton University's campus, where her husband taught architecture.
Mrs. Livas is survived by her only child, Henry L. Livas Jr.; former daughter-in-law, Becky Livas; grandchildren, Cosette, Nicole (Kedric), Leonard (Rebecca) and Nicholas; and two great-grandchildren, Alison and Logan. She also leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Otelia Ennis of Washington, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home in Hampton, and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Zion Baptist Church in Hampton. Interment will follow at the Hampton University Cemetery. Mrs. Livas will be placed in church by 9 a.m. on Saturday.
