Dear Faculty: NASA is opening its DEVELOP internship program application period for the Summer Session. The NASA DEVELOP National Program fosters an interdisciplinary research environment for interns to work on applied science research projects under the guidance of NASA and partner science advisors. DEVELOP is unique in that interns lead research projects that focus on utilizing NASA Earth observations to address community concerns and public policy issues. With the competitive nature and growing societal role of science and technology in today’s global workplace, DEVELOP is fostering an adept corps of tomorrow’s scientists and leaders. I have attached the application form for dissemination to your students. Internship opportunities are available during the spring, summer, and fall. Applications are encouraged from students interested in science, technology, and policy, age 16 and older, and enrolled in a U.S. accredited school. Students can apply to one of twelve NASA DEVELOP sites. More information regarding this program may be found at: develop.larc.nasa.gov . To apply students should follow the requirements and guidelines listed below: Eligibility Requirements + Current high school, college, or graduate school student at an accredited US school + At least 16 years of age and able to provide personal transportation to and from the DEVELOP location + Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (cumulative or most recent semester) + Recent graduates are eligible for one term within a year of their graduation date + U.S. citizenship is required to apply to DEVELOP locations at NASA Centers Application Guidelines Important Information Regarding the Application Process: + Applications must be postmarked by the deadline and sent to the National Program Office (NPO). + Incomplete applications, or those postmarked after the deadline, may not be considered. + Applicants will receive receipt confirmation of their application within two weeks after the postmark deadline. + Applications will be reviewed by the NPO as well as the centers to which the intern applied. + Interviews will occur in person (when possible) or over the phone (if the student is not local). + After the selection process is complete, each applicant will receive notification regarding their status. Upcoming Deadlines Fall 2012 Term: + DEVELOP is no longer accepting applications for Fall. + Term Dates: Sept 10 – Nov 16, 2012 Spring 2013 Term: + Application postmark deadline of November 15, 2012 has passed. + Term Dates: Jan 28 – April 5, 2013 Summer 2013 Term: + Application postmark deadline: February 4, 2013. + Term Dates: June 3 – Aug 9, 2013 Mailing Address Applications must be mailed to: DEVELOP National Program Office NASA Langley Research Center MS 307 Hampton, VA 23681 International Students International students interested in working with the DEVELOP Program must be currently registered at an accredited U.S. school. International students are not eligible to apply to NASA Center Locations or the Great Lakes office, however, they are eligible to apply to Regional Locations and Leveraged Academic Locations. There is an exception for the NSSTC (Marshall Space Flight Center) that allows international students to apply to that location. Acceptances for international students are conditional upon proof of a visa or approved OPT that will allow them to legally work within the U.S. Students who do not meet these requirements are not eligible to participate in the DEVELOP Program. Locations International Students can apply to: + NSSTC at Marshall Space Flight Center - Huntsville, AL + Mobile County Health Department - Mobile, AL + North Central Climate Science Center - Fort Collins, CO + Saint Louis University - St. Louis, MO + Wise County and City of Norton Clerk of Court’s Office - Wise, VA *Not all DEVELOP’s Regional and Leveraged Academic Locations actively conduct DEVELOP projects every term.
