For over 60 years, the National Science Foundation<http://www.nsf.gov/about/> (NSF) has remained the premier Federal agency supporting basic research at the frontiers of discovery across all fields, as well as science and engineering education at all levels. The Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) is seeking qualified candidates for a Program Director for the High Performance Computing (HPC) program, which is managed in the Division of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (ACI). ACI supports cyberinfrastructure resources, tools and related services such as supercomputers, high-capacity mass-storage systems, system software suites and programming environments, scalable interactive visualizations tools, productivity software libraries and tools, large-scale data repositories and digitized scientific data management systems, networks of various reach and granularity and an array of software tools and services that hide the complexities and heterogeneity of contemporary cyberinfrastructure while seeking to provide ubiquitous access and enhanced usability. ACI supports the preparation and training of current and future generations of researchers and educators in the use of cyberinfrastructure to further their research and education goals. ACI also supports the scientific and engineering professionals who create and maintain these IT-based resources and systems and who provide essential customer services to the national science and engineering user community. For more information about ACI and its programs, please visit http://www.nsf.gov/div/index.jsp?div=ACI. RELOCATION AUTHORIZED * Yes * Relocation MAY be paid contingent on the availability of funds. KEY REQUIREMENTS * Background investigation. DUTIES: As a Program Director for the ACI program, the selected candidate will be responsible for: * Long-range planning and budget development for the areas of science represented by the Program or Program cluster. * Managing an effective, timely merit review, award, and declination process, and post-award management process. * Communicating about the program effectively and advising the community of current and future funding opportunities. * Advising and assisting the Division Director and Deputy Director in the development of long-range plans that ensure the Division's investments are targeted to cutting-edge challenges and opportunities in NSF research and education fields. * Managing the research and education portfolio to ensure that investments are made in a diverse mix of cutting-edge projects that promise to advance the frontier and contribute to the attainment of NSF's strategic goals. * Preparing well-written program solicitations, annual program reports, and other written material that are consistent with strategic goals of NSF and the Division and that inform the Division's stakeholders, including the Administration, Congress, the national science and engineering community, and the public, of the intent, impact, and promise of program investments. ________________________________ QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in an appropriate field relevant to the work performed at NSF plus after award of the Ph.D., six or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position.
