The NASA Pathways Intern Program provides students with the opportunity to 
explore NASA careers and gain meaningful developmental work experience. 

Serves as a NASA's Pathways Intern Employment (IEP) Program student located in 
the Laser Remote Sensing Branch, Engineering Directorate. 

Participant completes assigned duties, tasks, readings, and developmental 
activities specified in the program.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
•       You must be a U.S. citizen
•       Cumulative GPA of 2.9 or higher on a scale of 4.0.
•       Must work at least 640 hours prior to completion of degree course work.
•       Male applicants must be registered for Selective Service.
•       Must complete background investigation.
DUTIES:
This position is part of the NASA Pathways Intern Program which is a formal 
training program. You may be required to perform rotational assignments in 
various organizations. 

Serves as a NASA's Pathways Intern Employment (IEP) Program student located in 
the Laser Remote Sensing Branch, Engineering Directorate. Under the supervision 
of senior level Engineers: investigates, analyzes, designs, tests, and 
evaluates state-of-the-art electronic, Lidar and passive electro-optical 
systems, equipment, or subsystems (lasers, detectors, telescopes) for ground, 
flight and space applications. Participates in field or laboratory experiments 
to evaluate new aerospace electronic, Lidar, and electro-optical systems or 
instrumentation and analyzes the data for proof of performance. Tests and 
maintains equipment or systems such as laser transmitters and receiver 
components, data acquisition systems, optical or electro-optical sensor 
systems, flight components, or electronic measurement and instrumentation 
systems. Perform optical system design and utilize standard software for design 
and analysis support. 

Program participants receive formal periodic assessments of progress and sign a 
Pathways Agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
The following major(s) are preferred: 
• Engineering related field (not Engineering Technology), 
• Physical Science, Life Science or Mathematics 
To be eligible for this position, you must: 
• Be a U.S. citizen; 
• Be at least 16 years of age at the time of appointment; 
• Be enrolled (or accepted for enrollment) in an accredited educational 
institution; 
• Be enrolled at least half-time as defined by your educational institution; 
and 
• Have and maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.90 (on 
a 4.00 scale). 

Candidates must meet the following education requirements to qualify: 

Currently completed 1 year of Doctorate level study in an appropriate field of 
Engineering (not Engineering Technology), Physical Science, Life Science or 
Mathematics is required. The degree must include or be supplemented by course 
work in the discipline to which application is made or other appropriate 
Physical Science or Engineering field.
