All, I was able to get in touch with the person who originally reported a fulvous whistling-duck on Tuesday. The bird was seen from a small boat that morning near buoy #7 in the Corrottoman River, not too far from the ferry landing. The bird was flying roughly toward the east fairly low to the water. The person who saw it is an experienced birder and admits that the motion of the boat, the distance of the bird and the low sun angle all conspired to make his identification tentative at best. Nonetheless it is worthwhile to keep an eye out for this duck. It could be anywhere by now but birders in the Taylors Creek, Weems, Irvington and White Stone areas should be especially vigilant.
