A service of the Northern Neck Audubon Society--- a report from Ida Hall "Value the land for the life it harbors" Sarah Stein ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ida Hall" ida@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To: "Paula Boundy" paula.boundy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tue 04/24/12 1:55 PM Subject: Fwd: bird sighting Hi Paula, I tried to put this on the , but my email address wasn't accepted. At any rate, I wanted to share a most interesting bird sighting that I had yesterday. While my friend Nan and I were paddling in Oyster Creek (a family deeded creek, adjacent to Bluff Point) yesterday, I noticed a bird feeding along the shore. A first I thought it might have been an oyster catcher or skimmer. The color was somewhat similar, except that this bird had very long orange-red colored legs. When I looked it up in my bird book, I was able to positively identify the bird as a BLACK-NECKED STILT. I've never seen one before. I don't think they are common in this area. I was wondering if you or anyone else you know may have seen one. I wish I had thought to get a picture with my camera phone! He was very handsome. I will keep a lookout for him again.
