It was 52 Degrees at the 7:45 a.m. start at Belle Isle State Park. It was beautiful and sunny so it warmed up nicely. I never know how to dress lately with our changeable weather so I layered and was glad of it. We had two young girls join the walk with their moms as they were on Spring Break from grammar school, and able to come. It was enjoyable to see the young girl use her bird book at such a young age. Here are our 43 Species: Eastern Bluebird, Barn Swallow, Osprey, Wild Turkey, Turkey Vulture, Northern Mockingbird, Chipping Sparrow, Northern Cardinal, Mourning Dove, American Crow, White-throated Sparrow, Killdeer, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Dark-eyed Junco, Pine Warbler, Double-crested Cormorant, Song Sparrow, Carolina Wren, Downy Woodpecker, Laughing Gull, Brown-headed Cowbird, Dunlin, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Great Blue Heron, Forster’s Tern, Horned Grebe, Gray Catbird, Ruddy Duck, Clapper Rail,-(auditory), Red-winged Blackbird, Carolina Chickadee, Yellow-throated Warbler, Lincoln Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, Ring-billed Gull, Pied-billed Grebe, Fish Crow, Boat-tailed Grackle, Bald Eagle, Greater Yellowlegs, Common Grackle, European Starling and Black Vulture. I must say our Yellow-throated Warbler was the star of the day. We kept hearing him sing but it took a long time to find him but, when we did, he stayed out in the sunlight and gave us a magnificent show. Nine of us were able to go to lunch at the Lancaster Tavern. We enjoyed the day. Happy Birding, Maryalyce J. Johnsen
