SATURDAY BIRD WALK AT BELLE ISLE OCTOBER 27TH On Saturday, October 27th, the Northern Neck Audubon Society will conduct a bird walk at Belle Isle State Park led by Frank Schaff. The bird walk will begin at 8:00a.m. at the horse trailer parking lot. If you wish to carpool, meet at Grace Episcopal Church in Kilmarnock at 7:25a.m. There will be several loaner binoculars available. Belle Isle State Park in Lancaster County features seven miles of Rappahannock riverfront as well as diverse tidal and non-tidal wetlands, lowland marshes, tidal coves and upland forests. Among possible sightings are early migrant waterfowl (diving ducks, loons, geese, swans), double crested cormorants, bald eagles, great blue herons, belted king fishers, Eastern blue birds, bald eagles and gulls. To reach the park from Kilmarnock, take Rt. 3 west to Lively and turn left on Rt. 201 (White Chapel Road). Go to the end of 201 and turn right onto Rt. 354 (River Road). Go 3.1 miles and turn left on Rt. 683 (Belle Isle Road). After the park entrance, continue to the four way intersection. The Camp Store will be on your right. Travel through the intersection to the horse trailer parking lot on the right. From Warsaw, take Rt. 3 east and travel approximately 14.5 miles. Turn right on Rt. 354 (River Road). Go about 3 miles and turn right on Rt. 683 (Belle Isle Road). After the park entrance, continue to the four way intersection. The Camp Store will be on your right. Travel straight through the intersection to the horse trailer parking lot on the right.
