LAPTOP HANDOUT COULD FREE UP CLASSROOM SPACE The president of Miami-Dade County's teacher's union has told Florida Governor Jeb Bush that the state could save $30 million by giving laptop computers to all high school students and teachers and converting 1,680 computer labs to classrooms. United Teachers of Dade president Pat Tornillo says buying the 644,000 laptops would be much cheaper than building 1,680 classrooms, noting that the number of computer labs represents the equivalent of 34 high school buildings.
