'Confidential US security documents' flaunted online
Confidential Homeland Security documents marked "For Official Use Only" have
been published online and are available through Google's web cache. The
documents describe suspicious incidents throughout the United States such as
an attempt to tamper with a water supply, bomb threats, and an airline pilot
being attacked with an axe. The website hosting the documents claims they
were accidentally published by the Department of Energy. The website
administrator refused to remove the documents at the request of the
Department of Energy. The documents are available as PDFs, while the Google
cache has them in HTML format.

Drug Records, Confidential Data Vulnerable
Harvard students' and employees' confidential drug purchase histories, as
well as the e-mail addresses of high-profile undergraduates whose contact
information must legally be concealed, have been available for months over
the Internet. Administrators shut down a Harvard website contributing to the
breach minutes after the school's newspaper, The Crimson, demonstrated that
sensitive data was accessible by anyone who obtains a student or professor's
non-confidential Harvard ID number. The now-disabled Harvard website,
iCommons Poll Tool, allowed users with nothing more than an anonymous e-mail
account to look up the ID number of any student, professor, or staff member.
University Health Services (UHS) said it has contacted the offending
website, run by Harvard's drug insurer PharmaCare, who's website may violate
HIPAA, the federal law prohibiting the unauthorized disclosure of medical
records.

What Corporate America Can't Build: A Sentence
R. Craig Hogan, a former university
professor who heads an online school for business writing
here, received an anguished e-mail message recently from a
prospective student.
"i need help," said the message, which was devoid of
punctuation. "i am writing a essay on writing i work for
this company and my boss want me to help improve the
workers writing skills can yall help me with some
information thank you".
Hundreds of inquiries from managers and executives seeking
to improve their own or their workers' writing pop into Dr.
Hogan's computer in-basket each month, he says, describing
a number that has surged as e-mail has replaced the phone
for much workplace communication. Millions of employees
must write more frequently on the job than previously. And
many are making a hash of it.

American Psychological Association Databases
EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) will soon provide access to the complete suite of
online databases produced by the American Psychological Association (APA).
This collection is comprised of the following five databases: PsycINFO,
PsycARTICLES, PsycEXTRA, PsycBOOKS, and PsycCRITIQUES.
Outside of direct access through the APA's PsycNET platform, EBSCOhost
will be the only interface to feature all five databases.
