Subject: [WWWEDU] Learning Page Chat on April 17

Fellow list members,

I'm posting the following for Leni Donlan of the Learning Page:

"I know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but
the people themselves; and if we think
them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome
discretion, the remedy is not to take it
from them, but to inform their discretion."
- Thomas Jefferson, 1820

Join Library of Congress staff members and your peers on April 17 at
8:00 P.M. (EDT) (5 p.m. Pacific time) in the After School Online
Classroom, http://tappedin.org/ .

Our theme, "We the People," provides an ideal opportunity to introduce
you to THOMAS, The Library of Congress Web site for Legislative
Information on the Internet, as well as other resources from the
Community Center of the Learning Page:
http://www.loc.gov/learn/community/cc_wethepeople.php

Special guest Don Richie, associate historian in the Senate Historical
Office joins us. Don, the author of the high school history textbook,
The American Republic, as well as a book about Congress for students:
The Congress of the United States: A Student Companion. will share his
expertise about the U.S. government plus his excellent Oral History
Project on the U.S. Senate Web site.

TAPPED IN "help desk" personnel will be on hand to assist new users.
It's recommended that new users arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the
