Southern Stories: Early Literacy Traditions for Young Children
May 5-8, 2003
Atlanta, Georgia

A collaboration of T/TAS, the Region IV Head Start Quality Improvement 
Centers, the Georgia Office of School Readiness and other Regional and 
State partners
 
The vision of the Southern Stories: Early Literacy Traditions for Young 
Children Conference is to celebrate regional literary traditions and 
showcase early literacy best practices by classroom teachers and other 
professionals. The emphasis of the conference is on the continuum of 
development in the early years from birth to the age of five.  There will 
be a particular focus on family involvement, English language learners, 
and children with special needs. The conference is a unique collaboration 
on early childhood education partners across the eight southern states 
supporting national and regional initiatives on early literacy and school 
success.

Southern Stories is an event open to all professionals working in Head 
Start, Georgias Pre-K programs, child care centers, family child care 
homes, child care resource and referral, the academic community, and other 
agencies serving young children and families.

We invite you to submit a presentation proposal for the Southern Stories 
conference.
 
Conference Topics are as follows:

* Literacy Rich Environment

Conference Tracks for Participants:

Ø     Infants and Toddlers

Ø     Three and Fours

Ø     Health/Nutrition/Families/Learning

Ø     Support for literacy development

Note:  All sessions are scheduled for an hour and a-half duration.  Our 
apologies, but there is no reimbursement for presenters fee or any 
conference expense.  Once your proposal is accepted, we will assist with 
your presentation hand-out requests, audio-visual needs, room and time 
logistics, and other special needs.

We encourage your participation during the entire Southern Stories 
conference! Many exciting sessions with cutting-edge information will be 
presented.  Noted speakers, cultural demonstrations, and an exhibitor area 
will round out the conference activities. We thank you for your enthusiasm 
and willingness to sharing your ideas and knowledge with others!
