Teacher Sues School District Over Student's Web Threat
A Pennsylvania teacher has sued the Abington Heights School District
over a "secret assassination plan" that was allegedly posted by a student
on the Internet because he was upset over a teachers' strike. Teacher
Willard Smith said in the suit, filed in the Common Pleas Court of
Lackawanna County, that the unnamed student should be further disciplined
by the school for threatening him on his personal Web site.

I am not sure what more the teacher wanted the district to do, given that
the district suspended the boy, had him psychologically evaluated, and
called the police. Methinks this reeks of unfair pressures related to
bargaining. And, based on the illogic of this teacher's action, perhaps the
boy had a pretty good reason to target this particular teacher.

The logical path would have been to legally challenge the boy and his parents.

Students really do need to understand where the line is crossed between
appropriate protest speech and inappropriate protest speech. And where are
they going to learn this?
