Subject: New Report: Knowledge Mgmt. in Education
To: K12ADMIN@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Dear K12Admin Colleagues:

In the new era of accountability in education, schools
are not doing all that they can to use available
information for planning, operations, and management to
yield more effective outcomes for students. A new
report, released today by the California-based
Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in
Education (ISKME), urges school leaders to balance
their investments in technology infrastructure with
equally important efforts to integrate data and
information into decision-making. You can download a
free copy at: http://www.iskme.org/monograph.html

The report, Knowledge Management in Education: Defining
the Landscape, summarizes the research on knowledge
management and identifies lessons learned from the
field to help public school administrators respond to
greater public demand for accountability and improve
education institutions. The report defines what
effective knowledge management is, discusses
differences between data-based and knowledge-based
decision-making, and identifies the challenges facing
many districts and schools.

The Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in
Education is an education think tank committed to
helping schools and colleges identify, distill, and
harness information for institutional and student
success. ISKME partners with K-16 institutions to
transform their knowledge capital into more effective
practices. ISKME applies research to strengthen
decision-making and the processes and technology
required for building an infrastructure that maximizes
information and knowledge across all levels of the
organization.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks.
Phoenix
