Subject: Apply now!

Below is a message from Barbara Morgan, NASA's first Educator Astronaut.
Her dedication to education, her fellow educators, and her students
continues to inspire.  Now, students, parents, friends, and colleagues can
nominate an educator for NASA's full-time Astronaut Corps through the
Educator Astronaut Program.  This program allows educators to apply for
the Corps, and encourages visitors to work with NASA to shape the future
in space and on Earth as an Earth Crew member.  http://edspace.nasa.gov

To my Friends and Colleagues in Education:

NASA is currently recruiting teachers to become permanent members of the
Astronaut Corps, and I am writing to encourage you to apply by April 30, 2003.

After the tragic loss of the Space Shuttle Columbia, NASA Administrator
Sean O'Keefe resolved to honor the lives of our Columbia crew by
continuing NASA's mission to understand and protect our home planet, to
explore the Universe and search for life, and to inspire the next
generation of explorers.  The Educator Astronaut Program will help fulfill
this important objective.  It offers a unique way to combine our teaching
skills with the excitement of space exploration.

As an Educator Astronaut, you would be a fully trained member of a NASA
space-flight crew, serving aboard the space shuttle or our International
Space Station.  You would also bring your expertise as a classroom teacher
to NASA's education activities.  It is the two best jobs on earth,
combined.  It is very challenging and very rewarding.

NASA has recommitted itself to education.  It knows that we educate our
children best through their teachers.  I am very excited about this program.
I hope you will apply.

Sincerely,

Original Signed by

Barbara Morgan
