About a dozen college students jumped on Birney Car 21 on Friday for a
chance at the $2,000 prize during Fort Collins Startup Week. The Trolley
Pitch event was organized by Colorado State University and sponsored by
Blue Ocean Enterprises, the investing and management arm of OtterBox
founder Curt Richardson and his wife, Nancy.

Seated in the trolley at various times were the judges, the Richardsons,
random spectators and U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, maybe better known in the
startup community as that guy who started Techstars.

"It's a novel twist on making pitching startups a little more fun and it's
exciting to celebrate Fort Collins, one of the top 10 startup cities in
the country," said Polis, who showed up just for the trolley ride.

Talking loudly above the street car's noisy air compressor that frequently
popped a good sound, said the trolley driver, because "it controls the
brakes" the young entrepreneurs gave their pitches, answered questions
and, if time allowed, told a few jokes.
