Amtrak is clearing overturned rail cars and replacing track as it seeks
to fully reopen its Northeast Corridor line by Tuesday as an eighth body
was recovered from the site of this weeks derailment in Pennsylvania.
.
We believe that we have now accounted for all people on the train,
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter said at a news conference Thursday. The
train carried 238 passengers.
.
Full service may be restored between Philadelphia and New York by Tuesday,
and possibly as soon as Monday, Amtrak Chief Executive Officer Joseph
Boardman said at the conference. Amtrak will resume its normal schedule
between New York and Boston on Friday.
.
Federal investigators now are turning their attention to the engineer of
the train in the May 12 derailment, who is said to have no recollection of
the accident. Brandon Bostian, 32, only remembers trying to reduce speed
as the train entered a curve north of Philadelphia before being knocked
out with a concussion, Robert Goggin, a lawyer who said he represents the
engineer, told ABC News in a telephone interview broadcast Thursday.

Mortimer Downey, a transportation consultant who has been deputy U.S.

would examine the tracks configuration and condition closely. He described
