SEPTA Strike Ends; Service to be Restored in Phases Today
SEPTA and TWU Local 234 announced a tentative five-year deal, ending the
strike that has crippled transportation in greater Philadelphia for nearly

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- SEPTA and TWU Local 234 have announced a tentative
agreement that ends the strike that has crippled transportation in greater
Philadelphia for nearly a week.

The announcement came at 5:30 a.m. Monday at the union's headquarters in
the Spring Garden section of Philadelphia.

The deal involves a new five-year contract.
.
SEPTA Board Chairman Pasquale Deon is a fair deal that provides "wage
increases, pension improvements, and maintains health care coverage levels
while addressing rising costs." The deal is still subject to ratification
by union members and must be approved by the SEPTA board.

Officials said SEPTA service would be restored in phases during the day on
Monday.

Subway service would be the first to return and some bus service could be
available in time for the evening rush, officials said, adding that it
normally takes 24 hours for full service to return after a shutdown.
