This survey, as far as I can understand in having submitted my responsesto its queries, is focused on social networking online only in terms ofMySpace, Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter and these types of newer socialnetworking tools, Delicious as they may be. The very active and longpresent world of email discussion groups seems to not be considered orpresent in this survey, so I made these comments in the survey and on theResearchGate list on which this scholar made a request for participationin this survey. I am posting these comments here so that folks will bereminded of the importance of the email discussion group as a means ofacademic, educational and other ways of communicating and collaboration.

I am the moderator and owner of the publicly archived and search engineindexed Net-Gold discussion group that covers all subject fields and hastwenty archives and related education and specialized subject relatedlists. My network gets information out on the public internet and intosearch engines. Facebook, Linkedin, and MySpace do not, although this willchange. I use, amongst many other purposes, the Net-Gold list to hold thebulk of the actual content that my subject guides on the Temple Universitywebsite index including my guides to Tourism, Hospitality, Kinesiology,Sports Management, Recreation, Leisure Studies, Outdoor Recreation, PublicHealth, Disabilities, General Internet and the College Learning Center.Email discussion groups on college Listservs, Yahoo Groups, Google Groups,Freelists and the like are vital, important and active social networkingtools that your study appears to have completely ignored.

I have a book chapter published on Wellness Tourism as a result of mycontributions on the academic tourism list, TRINET, which is one theUniversity of Hawaii Listserv server and the social networking thatresulted from these contributions. If your study ignores email discussiongroups, a very current and longstanding method of academic communicationand interaction will be missed. The social networking tools that you coverare for the most part of secondary importance to me and I spend most of myproductive social networking in a very large number of email discussiongroups including my own.

For example, if you were to join Net-Gold and share news stories, websitereviews, information about publications and the like, your academictourism content would go to at least thirteen archives and would beindexed from all by Google and other search engines. Net-Gold even has itsown index.



If this survey ignores email discussion groups, a vital and core method of
communication by academic and professional people currently and over

a long period of time will constitute a huge gap or hole in this research.Indeed in the fields of tourism and hospitality, the TRINET discussiongroup is a major resource for academic discussion, sharing and learning inthese very important fields.
