Why did Bealls List of potential predatory publishers go dark?

Jeffrey Beall, the University of Colorado Denver librarian who has since
2008 chronicled potential, possible, or probable predatory publishers, has
at least for now pulled the plug on his influential, and at times
controversial, site.
.
The decision to take down the site and Bealls faculty page at the Auraria
Library, where he remains a tenured associate professor was his own, the
University of Colorado Denver tells Retraction Watch.
.
The site, scholarlyoa.com, which just earlier this month included a list
of more than 1,000 such publishers, now contains no information. The
sudden change was noted Sunday on Twitter, where questions about the move
catalogued, along with some answers, by Emil Karlsson swirled for two
days. Bealls faculty page was also taken down.
.
Some of the speculation surrounded Cabells, a publishing services company
that had earlier announced it would house a publisher blacklist beginning
sometime this year. Cabells, however, said it was not involved in the
closure, and that it supported Beall. Cabells tweets also hinted at legal
threats, which Beall has faced in the past.

Controversial website that lists predatory publishers shuts down
Librarian Jeffrey Beall wont say why he has unpublished his widely read
blog.

My blog is now unpublished, said Beall, an academic librarian at the
University of Colorado, Denver (UCD). He added that he couldnt give
reasons and declined to comment further.
.
Investigating journals: The dark side of publishing
A spokeswoman for UCD said that Beall made a personal decision to close
down his blog, and that Beall is still employed on the universitys
faculty. In a statement, the university added that Beall would no longer
maintain or publish his research on open-access journals and predatory
publishers.
.
Bealls profile page on his employers website has also been emptied, as has
a Facebook page that he used to publicise his list.
.
Since 2010, Beall has single-handedly listed thousands of open-access
journals that he says exploit or deceive authors by charging fees to
publish papers without providing expected publishing services such as peer
review, archiving and editing.
.
The lists importance is tremendous, says Rick Anderson, an associate dean
in the library at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. There really
are predators out there running scholarly-communication scams, and Beall
has been the only person willing to call them out. Anderson says he fears
the list was taken down because of legal threats.

LIST OF PUBLISHERS
Bealls List:
Potential, possible, or probable predatory scholarly open-access
publishers
.
This is a list of questionable, scholarly open-access publishers. We
recommend that scholars read the available reviews, assessments and
descriptions provided here, and then decide for themselves whether they
want to submit articles, serve as editors or on editorial boards. In a
few cases, non-open access publishers whose practices match those of
predatory publishers have been added to the list as well. The criteria for
determining predatory publishers are here.
.
We hope that tenure and promotion committees can also decide for
themselves how importantly or not to rate articles published in these
journals in the context of their own institutional standards and/or
geocultural locus. We emphasize that journal publishers and journals
change in their business and editorial practices over time. This list is
kept up-to-date to the best extent possible but may not reflect sudden,
unreported, or unknown enhancements.

Database Search Results for Food Stamps and Nuttrition
This post requires some explanation. On an internet discussion group, the
topic of food stamps impacts on nutrition was discussed and a link to an
article in the Washington Post on this topic was shared. The topic was
framed under the concepts of healthy meals and food stamps. I came up
with four phrases for healthy meals including healthy foods, nutritious
foods and nutritious meals in addition to the original phrase. I shared
links to several database search results for this topic. I had a brain
storm and realized that I could have used the word nutrition as well.
Adding this word hugely increased the number of sources found. This post
contains both sets of searches so that any interested in who search
terminology can change search results will have a number of examples to
explore and the second search lists over twenty examples of sources found
with two of these searches. The links provided with each found and shared
source lead to a Google Scholar or Google Books search of that sources
title.
