Smashing pumpkin records is all in a day's work for Queensland farmer
Geoff Frohloff.

The Minden man has claimed top honours at the Heaviest Giant Pumpkin of
Show competition ahead of the Royal Queensland Show, better known as the
Ekka, which is coming to Brisbane in August.

Last year the winning pumpkin topped the scales at a whopping 204
kilograms a show record.

Yet despite a poor growing season this year due to severe wet weather
events, Mr Frohloff defied the odds with his whopping 261.5 kilogram entry
- setting a new show record in the process.

Mr Frohloff put his win down to a bit of luck, good mulch and a lot of
TLC.

Mr Frohloff has been growing pumpkins for 28 years and won the pumpkin
category at the Ipswich show 20 years in a row.

"I just like to see how big you can really get them," he said.
