The political atmosphere around climate change has altered considerably in
the past year. 2016 started fresh from the passing of the Paris Climate
Accord, and ended with the presidential election of Donald Trump, a
climate change skeptic.

It was also hot, with near record temps, and a slew of costly weather
disasters hitting the U.S.
.
After a turbulent 2016, what changes will 2017 bring to the fight against
climate change?
.
Businesses will likely play a large role in helping promote clean
practices.
.
"A lot more investors are becoming concerned about climate change and
they're putting pressure on companies that they're invested in to do
something to have cleaner operations, to cut their emissions through
energy efficiency and other things like that," said Wall Street Journal
reporter Cassandra Sweet, during a discussion in the Commonwealth Club of
California's Climate One series.

Companies have been making moves to go green on their own as well.
.
"Some of the big internet companies have made a big push to kind of
embrace that for a variety of reasons," said Katie Fehrenbacher, a senior
writer for Fortune.

President-elect Trump has been inconsistent in his attitudes toward
climate change, first calling it a scam then saying he would keep an open
mind following a sit-down meeting with former Vice President Al Gore and
an editorial meeting with the New York Times.
.
"If you look at his transition team, and if you look at some of the names
he's settled on for picks for his Cabinet, you have a stunning number of
climate skeptics, contrarians, deniers, whatever term you want to use,"
said David R. Baker, energy reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle
pointing out that Trump's pick to lead the Environmental Protection Agency
had actually sued it in the past.
