Chamberlains family argues that Chamberlain, a heart patient, told police
he didnt need help for about an hour and that the medical alert company
cancelled their call to police before reminding them that there was a
medical situation rather than a criminal situation. Regardless of this,
police forced their way into the apartment.

The family also said that video and audio footage show that police taunted
Chamberlains military service and called him a nigger before shooting
Chamberlainwho they say was unarmed, with his hands at his side and in his
boxer shorts when he was killed.

Network for Police Accountability Started in Response to Chamberlain Death
.
The Daily White Plains reports that the newly launched Network for Police
Accountability recently held a meeting at the Mount Hope AME Zion Church
Thursday to discuss police policies in response to Chamberlain's death.
.
The network is calling for police departments to publicize their policies
regarding the use of force, and plans to write letters to politicians
asking for a fair grand jury hearing in the Chamberlain case. The group
will also research configurations for a countywide coalition that would
review and investigate concerns resident have with police, as well as
grievances of police officers.

Chamberlain Lawyer: Police Violated Their Own Taser Policy

Lawyers for Chamberlains family said documents and autopsy reports show
that police acted inappropriately when they shot Chamberlain.

The son of Kenneth Chamberlain Sr., who was shot by White Plains Police in
November, said the family is pleased a grand jury is hearing testimony.

The Chamberlain family said the 68-year-old heart patients medical alert
device accidently went off prompting the police to respond to the call at
the Winbrook housing complex. According to police, Chamberlain put a
hatchet through his door prompting police to break the door down. Police
said they used a taser and beanbag gun on Chamberlain, who came at
officers with a knife, before he was fatally shot by Officer Anthony
Carelli.

According to the Chamberlain family, the LifeAid alert was canceled and
Chamberlain, a former correctional officer, repeatedly told police that he
did not need assistance. Despite this, police broke down the door and
tasered Chamberlain who was unarmed, in his boxer shorts with his hands at
his sidethe family said. The Chamberlain camp also said that audio
evidence from the LifeAid box and video from the taser gun shows that
police called Chamberlain a racial slur.

The family has also said that police refused to let Chamberlains family
members, who also live at 135 S. Lexington Ave., see him to try and calm
Chamberlain down before police shot himeven though they asked to see him
while police stood outside his apartment door for about 90 minutes around
5 a.m.

Despite all this, the Chamberlain family said it does not change their
view of law enforcement.

Me and my family are not anti-police, said Kenneth Chamberlain Jr. We are
anti-individuals who feel like they can do whatever they want, to whom
ever they want, then hide behind the badgebut we are not anti-police. My
father was law enforcement, so why would we be anti-police?
.
Carelli, one of several White Plains police officers named in a $10
million police brutality lawsuit, is expected to testify in front of a
grand jury that began hearing testimony on Wednesday.
