ADMINISTRATIVE: Yahoo Groups New Version

As is often the case with Yahoo, a new version of Yahoo Groups has been rolled out that is incomplete, in progress and with changes that negatively impact many groups and moderators. There has been strong criticism of these changes on both moderator blogs and discussion groups.

For Net-Gold the problems are severe and I recommend that readers wishing to use our archives in Net-Gold use the Temple Listserv Net-Gold or Temple-Gold archives or the Google Groups archive and that results from these archives be favored over Yahoo Groups results in searches of Google web search for Net-Gold content such as from the Net-Gold index. The reason for this is that temporarilly or permanently the web addresses cited in all posts are blank between brackets. If brackets were not used the link is now text and cannot be clicked to go to the website specified, but rather must be copied and pasted to get one to the site in the dialog box at the top of ones browser. I have been very busy communicating my concerns on these and other matters to moderators groups and to Yahoo moderators blogs. Some of these changes represent bugs or features that are still under construction and will be modified later one can hope with no time frame indictated.

Another disturbing feature is the loss, possibly temporarily, of the box of posting records by month with clickable links to view content in the list month by month, that has now been replaced by a sidebar. Also annoying is the sparse information on the main page with content once there hidden and changed in linked pages.

Here are web links to Yahoo content about these changes and to some of the moderator comments, some strongly worded, regarding these developments.

Also very convenient, NOT, the date of the post is now at the bottom of the message. The date and the title of the post starting with the first heading used are needed if you find a message you want to use and you find it in the Yahoo Groups archive. Go to this address with that information.
