Blogs often tell the side story of an event, and our most popular blog of 2009
did just that. It was during the confirmation hearing of Patrick Gallagher to
be the director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, when
Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller cautioned the nominee about
the National Security Agency in a blog entitled Rockefeller: Be Wary of the
NSA.
BET: 'Blame It' is top 2009 music video

NEW YORK, Jan. 2 (UPI) --
Black Entertainment Television says the video for Jamie Foxx's hit "Blame It"
topped the U.S. cable TV network's list of 2009's top music videos.
BET said in a release Friday that Foxx's music video collaboration with rapper
T-Pain beat out the music video for "Turnin Me On" from Keri Hilson and Lil
Wayne.

For the first-time ever two females ended the year holding the top two spots of
leading North American earners for the year, according to final statistics
released by Equibase on Friday.
Zenyatta earned $3,330,000 in 2009 to become the fourth filly or mare and first
female since Dance Smartly in 1991 to top the earners list. Rachel Alexandra
amassed $2,746,914 to place second on the list.
In other categories, Steve Asmussen, Garrett Gomez, and Michael Gill topped the
individual lists of the leading trainers, jockeys, and owners, respectively, by
North American earnings in 2009.

The economy may still be in the toilet, but don't tell that to Hollywood. The
movie industry has just wrapped on a very big year, and two studios, Warner
Brothers and Twentieth Century Fox, are claiming worldwide box office receipts
in the $4 billion neighborhood each, according to Variety. No fewer than seven
movies have had domestic gross receipts of better than $200 million each.
According to Box Office Mojo, the highest grossing film of the year was a
sequel, but it wasn't either a "Harry Potter" or "Twilight" film. Paramount's
"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" came in with better than $402 million
domestic gross, the highest domestic gross of the year.

American Farm Bureau Federation President Bob Stallman says the biggest news
story for agriculture in 2009 was weather extremes, from the drought in
California and Texas to the wet planting in many parts of the country and the
unseasonably cool and wet harvest in many areas.
In an AFBF Newsline interview, Stallman says the cool, wet harvest created
quality problems in many parts of the country. "It was really kind of an
unusual weather year for U.S. agriculture," Stallman said.
The other big news was the economic crisis that hit all aspects of the economy,
some more than others.
