Using the IYC 2011 is a
great choice for the theme of this summer's conference. The
International Year of Chemistry 2011 is an initiative of the
International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and the
United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization
(UNESCO) to celebrate the achievements of chemistry and its
contributions to our well being. There are four quarterly themes -
environmental, energy, materials and health - that you might want to
emphasize for workshops. Water will be included in each theme.
Extensive information can be found at <www.acs.org/iyc2011>. You
might want to look at <365:Chemistry
for Life> on the ACS site. It give a contribution in
chemistry for each day of the year. Terri Taylor
<t_taylor@xxxxxxx> in the ACS Education Office for high school
affairs and programs, will definitely help with getting supplies,
posters, IYC pins, etc to you. She can also help with T-shirts with
the IYC logo by possibly sending you the art work for printing. The
ACS IYC2011 website also has information for the printing and use of
the logo.
