Teams of counter-terrorist specialists work behind the scenes in airports, as part of the TSA, and in our own neighborhoods to keep us safe at work and at play. One type of team is composed of a highly effective fire inspector and his english labrador retriever, who is a working partner, trained to use his keen nose to sniff out dangerous materials. It is well known that these capable dogs can find individual compounds even when they have been mixed or masked by other strong odors. Sam and Bruce Quinn make up one of these specialized teams who keep Rhode Islanders safe. Bruce will discuss the details of the chemical and behavioral aspects of his work. Sam will then demonstrate the process of locating some dangerous substances. 11:00 NEACT Business Meeting 11:30 Lunch at Donovan Dining Center
