Now that the conference details are out and people are considering their
travel costs, I thought I would re-send an email from last July. I hope the

Hello everyone,
There has been some chatter about the need to raise funds for the NDA, its
conference, and for the members themselves. There are two simple reasons
for this push:
*1. To host the best possible conference we can. *
The NDA relies heavily on volunteers during this time, but funds are
necessary to make the conference run effectively and professionally. The
NDA needs to rent banquet rooms and provide sufficient audio equipment for
participants. We also need resources for childcare and food (including a
formal dinner) during conference days.
*2. To get the best possible attendance and greatest networking benefit out
of the three-day event. *
*In other words: we want everyone to come, but we realize it is costly to
travel! *
The NDA hopes families and individuals can start planning for the travel
and lodging expense that they will incur during the conference. We realize
that families and individuals affected by Norrie Disease use a variety of
costly resources already, and therefore may find attending a conference in
Boston to be a financial burden. The NDA tries to assist when it can,
but it is too small to monetarily assist everyone. Larger service
organizations like Lions Club International are better able to
help financially strained families absorb the costs associated
with attending conferences like ours, and the NDA encourages its members to
reach out to any such organization. We encourage those who do not need to
raise funds for their own travel needs to instead raise funds on behalf
of the NDA as a whole.
I have attached two SAMPLE LETTERS that you may download and use at your
discretion. Please note: I wrote them quickly this morning, so they have
not been vetted by the Board. I created them for the benefit of those who
do not know where to start in terms of fundraising, but I am not perfect;
if you find any mistakes, the oversight was mine alone. As for usage of the
letters, I suggest that each person alter the text so that it reflects both
your personal experience and the people or organization to which you are
appealing. You should be able to print or email the letters after changing
them to fit your needs.
