Moth'ers, The Leaf Blotch Miner Moths (Family Gracillariidae) are an interesting family of micromoths. They are tiny (usually less than 6mm in length) but are interesting on closer inspection. Species in the genera Caloptilia and Parornix have a distinctive posture with elongated front legs that look like stilts and they perch with the head much higher than the tail. I've identified at least three species in the past week (specific identifications are tentative). Has anyone else encountered these? 1) Caloptilia packardella #0620 2) Caloptilia superbifrontella #0641 3) Parornix sp. -- J. Merrill Lynch Echo Valley Farm Watauga County, NC Elevation: 3,400 feet
