Loading a program which uses half your memory is your harddrive
memory. The speed at which your program can operate for you is
regulated by the processor speed and RAM memory. Basically the
computer needs RAM to carry out the functions you want it to do, not
the storage part.
The first thing to do is go to the apple menu on the top left of your
desktop, click and hold to show the dropdown menu and choose "about
this Mac". This should show a small box that will say the operating
system, version, processor speed, and then memory. Under that will be
a link choice that says "more info". Click this and a list will
appear, and on the left side will be a choice for memory. Open this
and it will show how many banks of memory you have, and how much is
in each bank. Let us know all that info and someone can help
determine your next step.
1. Processor speed
2. Memory
3. memory bank use.
