This is just off the top of my head, but I believe if you were to
upgrade to 8.6 you would not have to install any printer drivers,
because, as Tee said, your printer should be shown in the Chooser.
It could be true of 8.5.1 as well, but I'm more sure of it for 8.6,
because that's what I'm using and I was told by Apple not to add any
printer drivers as it could mess things up. I'm using an Apple
Personal Laserwriter 300, so a similar model.
Your OS likely includes different printer drivers, such as
Laserwriter. You simply select that one in the Chooser and make sure
Appletalk is off, and you should be fine. Often the problem is that
Appletalk is on; it has to be off.
I would try the Chooser method first with 8.5.1 before installing any
drivers. If that doesn't work, then see if you can upgrade to 8.6,
as I'm pretty sure the printer driver is included with that one.
