Elise... Could you go back to this system at some point, or contact the person with this problem... Windows 98 Word 2000 HP LaserJet 6L PCL connected directly to the workstation (not a server environment) And ask them to click Help/About and report back the EXACT details about what version they're using. There are usually exact version numbers in parentheses and I need that exact number, if you can get that info...it would help a lot! Thanks! I'm so glad it has been escalated at Microsoft and people out there are working on it. It's a problem that goes way beyond the help menus or any tomes on Office you can buy. I have a colleague who is going absolutely bananas with this. Here are the details of our situations: I am running Windows 2000 Professional Word 2002 HP LaserJet 4050tn using the PCL driver My colleague is running Windows XP Professional Word 2002 HP LaserJet 4050tn using the PCL driver (it's the same printer as the one I use - we're on a Small Business Server 2000 network) Also, in case you're interested, I encountered this problem at my former place of work as well, in the following setup: Windows 98 Word 2000 HP LaserJet 6L PCL connected directly to the workstation (not a server environment) I'll have to check out those beta drivers. I guess everyone comes up with their own little workaround, and ours is as good as anyone else's I suppose. I hope it gets fixed soon though! =20 DATATIME CONSULTING Elise C. This arbitrary print margin change is an issue that the Word MVPs have noticed and are currently working on to help find a solution. >From threads we've read on the HP site, it appears to be an HP Driver issue. Are you all using Series 4000 HP printers (some possibly using 8000 series?) Assume you're all using Word 2002? Also, this problem has been reported less with WinXP (only one user), but more with variations of Win2000/NT servers.=3D20 HP is apparently admitting that they have problems with these drivers and they have a site with beta versions of new drivers. Some have found relieve using these beta drivers...some not. Here's the URL: http://www.hp.com/pond/ljbeta/index.html Also, some ingenious Word users have reported that they have been able work around the problem by doing the following: 1. in Word, a. Click Tools, Options b. Select the General tab c. In the Measurement Units box, if Inches is selected, select Centimeters: if Centimeters is selected, select Inches d. Click OK e. Click File, Page Setup f. Select the Margins tab and set the bottom margin to what you want it to be (default is 1 inch =3D96 2.54 cm) This issue has been escalated at Microsoft. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone experiencing this problem, report back to me here or directly at dian @ Mousetrax.com and let me know the following: * What version of Word * What version of Windows * What version of printer/driver * What printer name/style (ie HP 4001??) Thanks! Also...if the beta drivers or above workaround help, please let me know. Your detailed information will hopefully add to the info database to report this back to MS and HP to eventually solve this problem! Thanks for any help! Cheers! I was working too quickly and didn't think of that. But the printer is a network printer so I will need to blow it off the server, reinstall it there and then put it back on all the clients. I'll let you know if that works! Thanks. =3D3D20 DATATIME CONSULTING Elise C. The problem remains with envelopes, where the left margin gets made too big after the "margins set outside the printable area of the page" message. So I don't think that's going to be my solution. I was hoping it would work! Any other thoughts out there? -----Original Message----- From: Renaud, Parker [mailto:PRenaud@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]=3D3D3D20 Sent: Wednesday, November 06, 2002 12:50 PM To: 'mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [mso] Re: weird margins in Word Elsie- I had the same problem last week on my PC. I type up a document using the normal template and make no changes to the margins. When I go to print it, I get an error message that says, "The margins of this document are outside the printable area for the page." The options are Fix, Ignore and Cancel. If I click Ignore, and click on print again, I get the same error. So I can't print unless I choose Fix. Choosing Fix creates a 2.67" bottom margin. If I go into Page Setup and manually reset the bottom margin for 1" or 1.5" or whatever is normal, the whole thing happens again. I've started routinely using Print Preview before printing to check on whether it's going to print correctly and many times it shows the preview with the bottom of the document cut off up the 2.67" margin it insists on creating. I've found a workaround which seems really stupid: go to File-Page Setup-Paper, change the type of paper (I usually switch from letter to A4), click OK, and then go back in and change it back to Letter. That seems to solve it. My question is, that seems like a ridiculous thing to have to do. Has anyone seen this behavior and been able to figure out where it comes from and fix it? Thanks in advance and sorry for being so verbose. ************************************************************* You are receiving this mail because you subscribed to mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or MicrosoftOffice@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To send mail to the group, simply address it to mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To Unsubscribe from this group, send an email to=3D3D3D20 mso-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?Subject=3D3D3D3Dunsubscribe Or, visit the group's homepage and use the dropdown menu.
