Sounds like a trojan/virus/spyware/malware etc. Try downloading the free
Lavasoft Adaware and SpyBot Search & Destroy and running both the clean up
your system. Also empty all of your temp files.

I seemed to have lost my desk top icons start button and all. Can someone
send me some advice on how to retrieve it. The weird thing is that AOL
started loading all by it self without any clicking here to there - what
happened???
