Linda-

This is not an MSO comment but rather one for you. A technician from my isp
(Adelphia) privately admitted to me Adelpia frequently caused
'communication' problems in effort to keep things running smoothly. He
suggested before I call them for tech support (which is difficult for me),
I do this:

1. Shut down the computer.
If you shut down the computer +normally+ go to step 2.
If you shut down by holding the power button in 5 secs, go to step 5
2. Shut down the cable modem BEFORE powering off the network.
3. turn off or unplug power to the network.
4. wait 65 seconds, absolute minimum.
Go to step 10
5. Turn off or unplug power to the network
6. shut down the cable modem (Steps 5 & 6 are opposite from above)
7. wait an absolute 300 seconds (5 mins)
8. Power up in this order:
9. Turn on network first
10. Turn on cable modem, WAIT for the activity signal to indicate "normal"
11. Finally turn on the computer.

So far, this scheme has worked. Would it work for you? If so, save your
hair pulling for another time. I am not sure what is happening here, unless
it is something like a complete reboot and reset; start fresh type thing.

Nothing makes me mad faster than an Internet connection not working.

Robert
