If it has black boxes around it and it's inside the dotted header box, that means it's inline with text. Right click on it and go to Format Picture...click on the layout tab....set it to be "behind text"....now it should have little circles around it and it's no longer inside the header box. That should fix it. I wasn't using the header/footer to display the watermark. Am I right in recalling that this was the only way in some previous versions, but the recommended way now in Word xp is to insert via the Format/background command, and this offers no choice of which pages the watermark appears in, hence my original question. I've now tried it in the header, which as you say works in the sections that I want it to, but gives another problem. So far, I have not been able to permit the "text" part of the page to start at the normal position, and it drops down the page and starts after the image I'm using as the watermark, giving me a 5 or 6 inch margin. <//www.freelists.org/archives/mso/11-2002/fullthread167.html> Am I missing something out?
