Ray ... if you are sure you have successfully turned off "do not check
spelling and grammar" in all affected parts of your document and it keeps
getting turned back on, I would seriously suspect document corruption ...
read my Word troubleshooting page and try some of the stuff there.  Both,
the stuff for document corruption and the section on spelling and grammar
(the registry's data key and the proofing tools folder) ... hopefully that
will help you.
